On Thursday and Friday, the 27th and 28th of July 2023, FMZ Cellular and the MTN team joined hands with the Dias Hotel and The Eden Protocol Foundation to help restore the Mosselbay Care Centre’s Aftercare Centre. FMZ Cellular was very generous and gifted the Mosselbay Care Centre with 3 HP laptops, a WiFi Router and data, for the children so that they can do research for homework and projects. By joining forces the group managed to bring an overgrown garden back to life and also cleared an area for the children to play sport again. The group also repainted a classroom for grade 1 and 2 children and paved a cement pathway for the Aftercare Centre. FMZ Cellular is really grateful to have been a part of this project and would like to thank everyone who was involved in making the two days a huge success!
About the Mosselbay Care Centre
The Mosselbay Care Centre is a registered Non-Profit Organization and runs various outreach programs that require ongoing funding. The Care Centre buys food for 160 underprivileged children on a daily basis, and for most of these children, the food they get at school is the only meal they have for the day. The Care Centre also buys school clothes and shoes for the children who require them. The Mosselbay Care Centre provides various outings for the children throughout the year, and their year-end Christmas celebrations are by far the highlight for the children in need. The centre also prepares and distributes food parcels to underprivileged and sick pensioners whose only means of income is a small government pension.
The Mosselbay Care Centre opened an Aftercare Centre in Powertown, a rural development in Mosselbay. Here they are able to help 18 children with their homework and give them a healthy home-cooked meal every day. They also have outdoor activities this year and started vegetable gardens to teach the children how to become self-sustainable, which they also started at their own homes.

“We want to thank MTN and their team, Francois, Ann and Emile from Dias Hotel for fixing up our Aftercare Centre. The team from MTN fixed the fence, cleaned the overgrown garden, painted inside the wendy, and did the paving. Everybody worked so hard, and we are very grateful for everything they have done at our Aftercare Centre. There is still lots more they still want to do. Francois also braaied for the kids’ wors rolls yesterday, and today they got hamburgers. Words cannot say enough – Thanks, guys. We would also like to thank Universal Paints for supplying us with the paint for our outside buildings. Our Aftercare really looks like a new place. Thanks, everyone. We are so blessed.”
